Swansea City manager Carlos Carvalhal has called for penalties to be introduced in the earlier rounds of the FA Cup after watching the Swans taken to a fifth round replay by Sheffield Wednesday. On Carvalhal's return to the club he was sacked from before taking the reins at the Liberty Stadium, there was plenty of huff and puff present but little real quality on show.
Both goalkeepers made a couple of smart saves to keep their opponents at bay - Mike van der Hoorn's close-range header was brilliantly saved by the Owls' Cameron Dawson - and the game petered out into a scoreless draw meaning they will meet again in the week beginning February 26th, a game Carvalhal admitted they could do without.beer777
It is the result that nobody wanted, us and absolutely sure Sheffield Wednesday," he told BT Sport. "We want to finish [the tie] today.
I hope that in the future maybe we can think to change this rule....in this moment if we decided together [that] we go to penalties, maybe so we can decide that. If they agree and we agree with the referee then we can decide the game and we won't have an extra game in this period when we have a lot of games and [now] we have another challenge also.
But that's just an opinion."beer777
The Portuguese also paid tribute to the performance of his former club. We didn't start well, credit to Sheffield Wednesday, the way that Wednesday start to play, to press us - we played a little predictable in that moment," he continued.
After we start understanding what we must do, we started to move the ball a little better after 25 minutes and we started to control the game after [then].....[but it is difficult to create [chances] when a team is defending like Sheffield Wednesday have."
